Safety & privacy

Your account, your rules

Control who can see you, who can reach you, and what happens to what you share. Every setting here is real and enforced on our servers — not just hidden in the app.

Decide who sees you

  • Private account. Your posts are hidden from anyone who does not follow you — enforced server-side, so there is no back door to the content.
  • Follow requests. On a private account, new followers wait for your approval. Accept or reject each one.
  • Close friends. Keep a separate list and share stories with only those people. Add and remove anyone at any time.
  • Who can snap you. Allow snaps from everyone, or restrict to friends.

Control what happens to what you send

  • Disappearing by default. Snaps are view-once unless you choose to allow a replay, and everything expires within 24 hours.
  • Screenshot alerts. You are told when someone screenshots your snap.
  • Screenshot blocking. Turn screenshots off for a snap and the phone is prevented from capturing it at all — not merely reported afterwards.
  • Hide like counts on your own posts if the numbers are a distraction.

Blocking

Blocking someone cuts the connection both ways — they cannot see your content, find you, or message you. Manage everyone you have blocked from one screen and unblock at any time.

Blocking is silent. The other person is not notified.

Reporting

Report a post, a reel, a comment or a whole account. Pick the category that fits so it reaches the right reviewer:

Child-safety reports are handled with the highest priority. Read our Child Safety Standards.

If we get it wrong, appeal it

Enforcement should not be a dead end. If your account is actioned, you can ask a human to look again.

  1. 1
    You are told what happened
Warnings explain what was actioned and why.
  2. 2
    Submit an appeal
Explain your side and attach supporting identification if the review needs it.
  3. 3
    A person reviews it
Appeals are read by our moderation team, not decided automatically.

    Track the outcome
Check your appeal status in the app at any time.

Common questions

Will someone know if I block or report them?
No. Blocking and reporting are both private.
Can I stop strangers messaging me?
Messages from people you do not follow go to a separate requests queue instead of your inbox, and you can restrict snaps to friends only.
Can I make my account private later?
Yes, at any time from settings. Existing followers stay; new ones must be approved.
How do I delete my account?
You can request deletion from the app. Contact support if you need help.
